Fix Your Xbox 360
D-Pad
The Problem
The Xbox
360 d-pad is identical to the Xbox d-pad apart from two modifications that they
did to it
Quite why
they messed with a working d-pad I don’t know
I suspect
they made the changes without fully verifying it worked well
And then
just couldn’t be bothered changing it
This took
me 10mins to fix and would take Microsoft even less
Modification 1
The
circle size that the d-pad sits in
Controller-S
27mm
Xbox 360
25mm
Now you
have to remember that the actual dimensions of both d-pad's are identical
And are
actually interchangeable so that 2mm less space is what causes the knocking
The best
way to fix this is to follow this guide
http://www.ufighterx.com/guides/videogame/360dpadfix/360dpadfix.htm
I did
this myself and it made a great difference.
Modification 2
I was
still getting problems with pressing left on my d-pad
It just
felt wrong and didn’t make contact allot of the time
So I
decided to look into this tonight
On the
Xbox 360 they have added an extra key tab to the d-pad
Right
where the left button membrane is
I presume
to stop the d-pad drifting off centre in the circle
But they
have badly designed this and it interferes with the left d-pad button
It makes
the rubber membrane jam slightly making you have to push hard on the d-pad left
That’s
what that funny noise is when you press hard on d-pad left the rubber membrane
jamming
When you
push hard and it makes that noise that’s how it should contact btw
You’re
not breaking it. Just forcing the membrane to unjam to contact fully
Anyway to
test this
I removed
the back part of the d-pad from my controller-s
And
fitted it into the 360 pad
Guess
what it’s totally fixed no funny noise no funny feel on the left button
Just a
great d-pad
Now you
don’t have to fit one from an Xbox joystick
Just trim
your 360 one to suit
I recommend
trimming it to half its original size and seeing if that fixes it
If it
doesn’t just fully trim it
Make Sure You Don’t Trim The Wrong Key Tab
I have
made this quick guide to try and help
If you
break your joystick don’t come crying to me.
